About Sanxenxo

One of the most exclusive beach resorts in Galicia, Sanxenxo overlooks the Atlantic Ocean in Spain’s north-west. It’s famed for its beautiful stretches of sand and proximity to the Rías Baixas wine region, as well as being just a short boat ride from Galicia’s only national park.

Things to do in Sanxenxo

Spend your days relaxing on the semi-circular strip of sand that fronts Sanxenxo or stroll along the breezy promenade backing the beach. Surfers should head to A Lanzada, which is renowned for its year-round waves, while the cove of A Nosa Señora provides a more secluded option at the foot of a Catholic shrine.

Sanxenxo is on the doorstep of the Rías Baixas wine region, which is predominantly planted with Albariño grapes. Rías Baixas is considered the birthplace of this unique Galician variety, with the thick skins of the Albariño grapes able to withstand the region’s maritime climate. Drive between the sun-drenched vineyards and their cellar doors to sample the local whites accompanied by Galician cuisine.

Sanxenxo is a convenient base for visiting the city of Vigo, which centres around an atmospheric old quarter and the Neoclassical Church of Santa Maria. It also serves as a gateway to the Atlantic Islands National Park, a wildlife-rich destination where the Vigo Estuary meets several archipelagos. Rent a boat to explore the spectacular coastline and birdwatch along one of the well-marked hiking routes that traverse the islands of Cíes, Ons, Cortegada and Sálvora.

Getting around Sanxenxo
