About Currumbin

Backdropped by pristine rainforest, Currumbin is a small beachfront suburb in the south of the Gold Coast. It winds both along the ocean and the Currumbin Creek waterway, offering a choice of beaches and water sports. In 2013, Currumbin was awarded the title of Australia's cleanest beach.

There's been a hotel in Currumbin since 1910 but the suburb has always retained its calm atmosphere. Even today, visiting Currumbin is much more about quiet walks on the beach than vibrant restaurants and cafes, despite the choice of eateries along Pacific Parade, the modern part of the suburb.

A sublime right-hand break makes Currumbin a famous destination for longboard surfers from Australia and around the world. The Creek provides an excellent space for stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary claims to be the Gold Coast's oldest tourist attraction and has been offering koala cuddles and kangaroo feeding since the 1940s.

Currumbin is on a variety bus lines, providing easy connections to the north and south of the Gold Coast. Taxis are easy to find along Pacific Parade while Currumbin is less than ten minutes drive from Gold Coast Airport.

Tourism boomed in Currumbin in the 1920s, with a series of fibro beach houses being built along the protected beach. Some of these still remain, providing a charming backdrop to the sand.
