About Hope Island

With its stunning ocean views, Hope Island is home to a trio of world-class golf courses. Designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson, 18-hole Links Hope Island is a must visit course for any golfing enthusiast. The pace is slow and ‘island time’ clicks into gear, with Hope Island Resort, Sanctuary Cove and the Intercontinental Hotel offering a massages, day spas, sunset cruises and more.

Close to sun-kissed Gold Coast beaches and Brisbane city alike, Hope Island is a great base for exploring wider NSW. Just a short detour from the Pacific Motorway, Hope Island is easily reachable by car. The 65 km drive takes around one hour, with plenty of scenery to soak up along the way. The island can also be reached by rail, with the Coomera Railway Station offering regular direct services to Brisbane city and the airport.

While today Hope Island is one of the most coveted neighbourhoods in NSW, it wasn’t always so glamorous. It was originally owned by colonial sugar plantation aristocrat Captain Louis Hope, who was granted 7.3 km2 of land at the mouth of the Coomera River. Unaccustomed to island life, he let the land grow wild and instead chose to live in nearby Ormiston.
