Brampton Island is fringed by 12 sandy beaches, each with its own unique charm. Access is via a network of walking trails that wind across the island. Head to Brampton Islands National Park for magnificent views of nearby islands and secluded bays and the chance to sleep under the stars.

Whether you want to dive or snorkel, exploring Brampton Island’s underwater world is all part of the fun. The lagoon between Brampton and Carlisle Islands is known as the Fishbowl" and is teeming with coral gardens, tropical fish, reef sharks and turtles.

You'll find plenty of water sports on offer at Brampton Island, including the chance to sail catamarans, jet ski and go windsurfing. If you prefer a slower pace, take a scenic stroll along the various walking paths and admire the lush foliage.

Part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, Smith Islands National Park is a haven for marine life. Every summer you can watch as whales flock to enjoy the warm waters. If you're lucky you could spot Migaloo, the world's only white humpback whale.

Getting around Brampton Island

There are no cars on Brampton Island, so you'll need to get around on foot. You can arrive via small plane flights from Mackay in around 15 minutes. You can also charter a private helicopter or arrive by boat.
