Explore the characterful main street or venture out of town to discover gorgeous beaches, scenic nature reserves and boutique vineyards strung across Matakana Coast Wine Country.

Things to do

Sheepworld showcases one of New Zealand's most iconic industries. The family-friendly agricultural attraction features a popular sheep and dog show, live shearing demonstrations, pony rides and lamb feeding experiences. The Warkworth District's Museum showcases the region's pioneer-era roots and is filled with antiques and vintage machinery. It's set in Parry Kauri Park, a protected nature reserve dotted with giant kauri trees, including the ancient McKinney specimen estimated to be around 900 years old.

Swim, sunbathe and peer into tidepools at Snells Beach, a pristine stretch of sand set on the Mahurangi Peninsula. In addition to basking on the sugar-white sand, you can discover the Brick Bay Sculpture Trail, an open-air gallery dotted with contemporary sculptures.
