Where to stay in Trysil

About Trysil

One of the first holiday hotspots in Europe to receive Sustainable Tourism certification, Trysil lies near the Swedish border just a short drive north of Oslo. It is one of Norway’s largest ski destinations, with its dense forests, wild rivers and soaring mountains providing a backdrop for a variety of recreational pursuits throughout the year.

Things to do

Skiers of all levels can take advantage of the well-groomed trails and snow parks of Skistar Trysil, while dedicated children’s areas are found at the Turistsenteret and Høyfjellssenteret. There are around 100 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails to explore along the slopes of Trysilfjellet mountain, which can also be accessed by dog sleds or elk-pulled sleighs.

Visiting in the summer months? Discover the natural beauty of Trysilfjellet mountain on one of its many hiking trails, which range from short walks to all-day treks. A vast network of mountain biking trails also traverse the region and there’s a family-friendly skills course in Trysil where young cyclists can develop their skills.

If you prefer to hit the water, the Klarälven River carves its way through Trysil and offers thrilling whitewater rafting adventures and canyoning expeditions. Canoes can be rented for paddling the more tranquil sections of the river, as well as Ulvsjøen Lake, one of Trysil’s best pike-fishing locations.

Getting around

Trysil is around two hours’ drive from Oslo Airport and 2.5 hours from the centre of the Norwegian capital. Scandinavian Mountains Airport is just 40 minutes away and has flights to destinations across Europe. Cable cars connect to the ski trails of Trysilfjellet mountain while Trysil village is small enough to explore on foot. Having your own car is the most convenient way of visiting the region.
