About Seocheon

Seocheon is a gateway to South Korea’s beautiful West Coast. Visit museums and cultural attractions in the port city of Gunsan and take a day trip to picturesque Seonyudo Island. Things to do in Seocheon

The lively port city of Gunsan is a great base for exploring Seocheon. It’s set on the banks of the Geum River, just before it flows into the Yellow Sea. The city is dotted with Japanese-style buildings like Hirotsu House, which recall the colonial era. Serene Eunpa Lake Park is just outside the city and is filled with cherry blossoms and chestnut trees.

Seocheon takes you beyond South Korea’s busy cities and offers a chance to explore wildlife-rich forests and nature reserves. Visit the Geumgang Estuary Bird Sanctuary to spot swans, oystercatchers and rare gulls. The Maryang-ri Camellia Forest is one of several Natural Monuments in Seocheon. Stroll along the scenic paths and enjoy the beautiful sea views. Some of the oldest trees are more than 500 years old.

Exhibits at the Hansan Mosi (Ramie Fabric) Village celebrate the rich artistic heritage of Seocheon. The museum is set at the foot of Geonjisan Mountain and introduces you to the centuries-old tradition of ramie weaving.

Digging for shellfish is a signature experience when visiting the West Coast. Head to Janghang Songlim Forest and Beach to forage through the mud and collect the delicacies. Local restaurants are happy to transform your catch of the day into a tasty noodle soup.

Getting around Seocheon

Rental cars are an easy and flexible way to explore Seocheon at your own pace, while local busesare an affordable option. Trains run between Seocheon and Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul in around three hours.
