About Port of Shenzhen

The Port of Shenzhen is a concentration of ports considered a whole that is sprawled along the 260-kilometre coastline of Shenzhen City in the Guangdong Province of China. It is one of the busiest and most prominent expanding container ports in the world. The Port of Shenzhen is divided into eastern and western sections separated by the Kowloon Peninsula and serves as one of China’s most economically important locations.

The massive port contains 140 berths across more than a dozen regions in the Guangdong Province. These berths include passenger services, operational freights and consignee terminals. The Port of Shenzhen is considered a Special Economic Zone and contains the most important trade destinations including the Yantian International Container Terminals, Chiwan Container Terminals, Shekou Container Terminals, China Merchants Port and Shenzhen Haixing, respectively.

The Port of Shenzhen is situated in the southern region of the Pearl River Delta. Passenger ferries are the most common forms of transportation throughout the area. The city of Shenzhen is served by major roadways, railways and a metro system. The nearest aviation hub is the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.

In 2005 the Port of Shenzhen managed a record number of containers, making for the world’s third busiest port. The western port area, comprised of a portion of the Pearl River Estuary boasts remarkable natural shelters and a deep water harbour.
