About Mukacheve

Situated on the Latorica River, Mukachevo is renowned for its magnificent architectural landmarks, such as the Palanok Castle and Saint Nicholas Convent. It’s also home to a charming pedestrianised Old Town with its very own “White House”.

Things to do in Mukacheve

Perched atop a high volcanic hill overlooking Mukachevo is the Palanok Castle, established in the 14th century as part of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its beautifully preserved fortifications now house a historical museum and art gallery, as well as a wine tasting room where you can sample local wines.

Don’t miss seeing the Saint Nicholas Convent, which was founded in the 11th century and reconstructed in its current Classicist style in the late-18th century. It’s still home to Orthodox nuns and features three beautiful chapels with treasured iconography.

Stroll along the cobblestone street through the heart of Mukachevo to Myru Square. At one end stands the Art Nouveau Town Hall while at the other is the St. Martin of Tours Cathedral, with charming cafes and boutiques along the way.

Want to see Ukraine’s version of the “White House”? Head to the Princes Rakoczi Palace, which once served as a family residence for Transylvanian princes. It blends Renaissance and Baroque architecture and its 17th-century white walls have been repainted light pink.
