Home to a rich war history, Honiara is the culturally engaging capital city of the Solomon Islands where a bustling wharf meets local markets and Melanesian traditions. You’ll also find stalls with arts and crafts, unique trinkets, handmade clothing and jewellery. It’s a short stroll from Lime Lounge, a charming cafe serving light meals and coffee.

Learn more about the history of the Solomon Islands at the National Museum, which houses old photographs and historic displays on traditional dance, weaponry, archaeological finds and currency. If the nation’s war history fascinates you, visit the US War Memorial, only five minutes’ drive from the town centre. The memorial showcases each battle fought during the Guadalcanal campaign.

Those who enjoy nature should embark on the two-hour hike to Matanikau Falls, which takes you through a grassy land and deep into a lush forest. If you prefer to admire the ocean views from afar, then grab a coffee at Breakwater Cafe or enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine at Tenkai Sushi Cafe. You can also grab a drink and listen to live music at Leaf Haus next door.

Outdoor recreation can be found at Honiara Golf Course and Club, about seven kilometres from town. This beautiful 18-hole golf course is ideal for beginners and experienced golfers, with immaculate fairways and challenging sand traps.
