Hugging the East Sea coast of South Korea, Goseong is a sprawling city within the province of Gyeongsangnam-do. It’s home to the world’s largest fossilised dinosaur footprint site and lies on the doorstep of a popular stretch of sand overlooking Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park.
Things to do in Goseong
If you’re visiting in the summer months, you can spend a day at Namildae Beach, which is famed for its rock formation resembling an elephant drinking water. After your swim, continue to the Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge (one of the biggest bridges in Asia) or enjoy a scenic cruise through Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park. More than 1,000 plant species have been recorded within its territory, together with 115 bird species and several mammals that include Finless porpoises, Asian badgers and Eurasian otters.
Travelling with kids? Don’t miss a visit to the Goseong Dinosaur Museum, which is the first museum of its kind to be established in South Korea. It features five exhibition halls where you can learn about the Cretaceous period and get up close to life-size dinosaur skeletons before watching dinosaur-related films in the theatre.
The Goseong Dinosaur Museum is located adjacent to one of the world’s largest dinosaur fossil sites where a large number of footprints representing a variety of species have been uncovered. Getting around Goseong
Goseong is around two hours’ drive from the centre of Busan and 2.5 hours from Gimhae International Airport, which has flights to destinations across Asia. Buses are the main means of getting around Goseong while having your own vehicle gives you greater freedom to explore.
