Where to stay in Exmouth

About Exmouth

A small resort town on North West Cape, Exmouth is renowned for its coral reefs, magnificent whale sharks and the diverse wildlife in nearby national parks. Enjoy the town’s endless beaches and clear seas, then relax with a drink in one of its quaint coffee shops or boutique bars.

Things to do

Part of Australia’s Coral Coast, Exmouth is a short drive from half a dozen unspoilt beaches perfect for sunbathing or swimming. Just off the coast is Ningaloo Reef, where you can dive and snorkel among the colourful fish or see whale sharks from glass-bottomed boats. Visit Jurabi Turtle Centre to learn about turtles and their habitat or take a guided tour to view hatchlings during nesting season.

Spend some time at Cape Range National Park, where 50,000 hectares of spectacular mountains and canyons are home to kangaroos, emus and rock wallabies. The tranquil gorge of Yardie Peak is a highlight of the park, and its multicoloured cliff walls are best seen from a guided boat tour. If you’re a keen birdwatcher, the Mangrove Bay Bird Hide is a great place to see mangrove fantails, kites and ospreys.

Seafood in Exmouth is fresh, abundant and delicious. Try Whalers Restaurant for an excellent seafood platter or delightful Gumbo stew or check out Ningaloo Bakehouse & Cafe for mouth-watering pies and some of the best coffee in town. After lunch, head over to Ningaloo Gallery to see incredible underwater photographs of the reefs and their inhabitants.

Getting around

Learmonth Airport is 36 kilometres from Exmouth and has daily flights to Perth, while buses travel there from Perth and Broome several times a week. The centre of town is small enough to get around on foot and charter buses travel daily between the visitor centre and the area’s top attractions.
