About Daman

Overlooking the Arabian Sea, Daman showcases its Portuguese influences in historic structures while also celebrating rich Indian culture through bustling markets and inviting restaurants. Locals and visitors flock to the city’s beaches for water sports, swimming and sunbathing, while the inland areas reveal top-notch family attractions.

Things to do

Follow the summer crowds to Jampore Beach, which is renowned for its calm waters, parasailing and beachfront shacks serving beer and snacks. This is one of the best spots for fresh seafood and chicken cooked in authentic Indian style. On the opposite side of the Daman Ganga River is Devka Beach, which has a beachfront amusement park with kids’ rides and playgrounds.

Discover the city’s Portuguese colonial past at the 17th-century Nani Daman Fort, which has a manicured courtyard and prominent arched gateway. You can walk along the fort’s ramparts for scenic river and sea views or enter the historic church inside. Afterwards, wander down to the Nani Daman Jetty to see traditional fishing boats and purchase beer and local delicacies from nearby food stalls.

Are you visiting Daman with your family? Take the kids to Vaibhav Water World for twisting slides, aquatic play structures, peaceful picnic areas and swimming pools. Vanganga Garden is slightly further out of town and treats you to tranquil flower gardens and a scenic lake with hire boats.

Immerse yourself in local life at one of the many markets around Daman, including the lively Moti Daman Fish Market. The Maharaja Market is a good spot for picking up handmade clothing and unique trinkets, while Moonstar is a more contemporary shopping mall with designer brands.

Getting around

Daman is easily reached via trains to the nearby town of Vapi or flights into Daman Airport, about five kilometres away. Daman is best explored by using the taxis and auto rickshaws or hiring a driver for the day.
