About Camarillo

Established as a family ranch in the mid-19th century, Camarillo is a vibrant city on California’s Central Coast. It centres around a charming old town and is home to several fine museums, including the ranch house where Adolfo Camarillo (after whom the city was named) became one of the wealthiest landowners in the United States.

One of the city’s most beautiful buildings is the Queen Anne-style Camarillo Ranch House, which was built in 1892 on the designs of Herman Anlauf and Franklin Ward. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with docent-led tours taking you through its period-furnished rooms. See the study where Adolfo Camarillo once worked and learn about his agricultural innovations before enjoying the views across the gardens from the wraparound porch.

Historical artefacts, paintings and photographs are on display at the Pleasant Valley Historical Society and Museum, which details the people and events that have shaped Ventura County. If the region’s military past is more of interest, head to the Commemorative Air Force - Southern California Wing, where you can get up close to vintage aircraft or experience a thrilling warbird ride.

Camarillo is dotted with leafy parks that are ideal for strolling and picnicking, including Nancy Bush Park with its children’s playground and the Springville Dog Park.
