About Angkor Archaeological Park

Angkor consists of the widespread ruins of an ancient city strewn throughout the land north of the Great Lake and south of the Kulen Hills outside of the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia. This burgeoning tourist attraction is home to notable Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. The area is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers massive cultural and historical value to tourists.

The city of Angkor contains thousands of temples, but the most visited site is Angkor Wat, a well-preserved representation of Khmer style architecture. Other notable attractions are the Bayon, a temple inset with many smiling faces, Ta Prohm, ruins seemingly swallowed by the jungle, and Banteay Srei, with its elaborate representations of Angkorian art. Popular things to do include sightseeing, watching the sunset at Pre Rup and dining at the nearby Borey Sovann Restaurant.

The nearby Siem Reap International Airport is the major aviation hub servicing the region. Tuk-tuks are the most popular form of transportation around the region although there are taxis as well. Motorbikes and bicycles are frequently available for rental. Additionally, many tour guides offer their services.

The city of Angkor is a representation of the Angkorian period that lasted from 802 AD to the late 14th century. Angkor was the largest pre-industrial city in the world.
