About Josef Chromy Cellar Door

Overlooking sprawling vineyards and a picturesque lake, the Josef Chromy Cellar Door is located in Relbia within the Tamar Valley wine growing region. It comprises part of the original 1880s homestead, surrounded by established landscaped gardens, and is an idyllic location for sampling Josef Chromy’s outstanding wines.

Josef Chromy has been listed as one of the top 10 wineries in Australia, renowned for producing high-quality pinot noir, chardonnay, riesling, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc, all of which can be sampled at the cellar door. A state-of-the-art winery nestles at the base of their vineyards and houses some of the most cutting-edge winemaking equipment currently available. Their winery tours are an ideal opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at all how they produce their exceptional wines, while two-hour long Ride the Vines tours take visitors through the scenic vineyard landscapes by bike while discovering the Josef Chromy story. Both tours end with guided wine tastings in the cellar door and the option to dine at their on-site restaurant. Overlooking the lake, Josef Chromy Cellar Door is renowned for its exceptional modern Australian cuisine, drawing on fresh, local produce and paired beautifully with Josef Chromy wines.

Josef Chromy Cellar Door is best accessed by private vehicle, an easy 15-minute drive to the south of Launceston. Alternatively, it can be visited as part of a wine tasting day trip through the Tamar Valley region, either as a group or privately guided tour.

The winery and cellar door were established by Josef Chromy who fled his war-torn Czech village in 1950 to immigrate to Australia. He has been heavily involved in developing many of Tasmania’s finest vineyards, including Bay of Fires, Jansz, Heemskerk and Tamar Ridge, before launching Josef Chromy Wines in 2007.
