It centres around the lively commercial and dining strip of “The Avenues” while offering easy access to the ski slopes of Whitefish Mountain Resort and Glacier National Park.

Things to do in Whitefish

If you’re visiting in the summer, you can swim at sandy City Beach on the southern shore of Whitefish Lake. Kayaking and boating are both popular on this freshwater lake while anglers can try their luck at luring bull and cutthroat trout. A short drive north of Whitefish is the lakefront Les Mason State Park, where you’ll find a gravel beach, forest trails and picnic facilities.

In the winter months, you can hit the downhill runs of Whitefish Mountain Resort, which has been attracting skiers since the 1940s. There are trails to suit all skill levels, including steep terrain that will appeal to advanced skiers. One of the appeals of Whitefish Mountain Resort is its down-to-earth vibe and convivial après-ski scene.

Sprawling north of Whitefish is Glacier National Park, which encompasses 4,000 square kilometres of snow-capped mountain peaks and glacial-carved valleys. Heritage-listed hotels and chalets built by the Great Northern Railway dot the park while grizzly bears, moose and wolverines roam its terrain. Bright red “Jammers" offer tours through the park while historic wooden boats cruise its sparkling lakes.
