About Western Visayas

Comprising the islands of Panay, Guimaras and part of Negros, Western Visayas is an administrative region in the heart of the Philippines. It’s home to one of the oldest Spanish colonial settlements in the country and inspiring natural wonders, as well as the world-famous beach resort of Boracay.

Things to do in Western Visayas

Whether you’re craving a history fix, a nature-based adventure or time at the beach, Western Visayas has something to offer.

Sightsee in Iloilo City. Founded in 1566 by the Spanish, Iloilo City overlooks a strait that separates Panay and Guimaras islands. It is renowned for its colonial architecture, including the monumental Jaro Cathedral and the red-spired Molo Church. You can delve into the local history at the Museo Iloilo or stretch your legs on the riverfront Iloilo Esplanade before touring Nelly’s Garden on the grounds of the Mansion de Lopez.

Escape to Boracay. In the far north of Western Visayas is one of the most famous island destinations in the Philippines - Boracay. It’s ringed by palm-lined beaches surrounded by coral reefs and shipwrecks just waiting to be explored. If you’re feeling active, you can take advantage of the water sports at Bulabog Beach or climb to the summit of Mount Luho for sweeping views across the island.

Refresh in the Malumpati Cold Spring. Surrounded by dense forest, this cold-water spring in Antique boasts aquamarine waters that are enticing on hot days. The name “Malampati” derives from a local phrase that translates as “Aetas will jump” in reference to the indigenous peoples who enjoyed jumping into the spring. In addition to swimming, you can join a guided tubing adventure or simply relax at the on-site restaurant.
