About Spokane

Named after the Native American tribe that once gathered here, the city of Spokane sprawls along the Spokane River. It’s home to excellent museums detailing the city’s heritage and most famous residents, as well as buildings dating back to the first environmentally-themed World’s Fair.

Things to do in Spokane

Spend an afternoon exploring the walking trails and landscaped gardens of Riverfront Park where the 1974 World’s Fair was held. Many of the architecturally-impressive pavilions still stand today, together with the historic Looff Carousel. It’s also the starting point for cable car rides along the scenic Spokane Falls SkyRide.

Soak up the impressive Spokane Falls views from the Monroe Street Bridge, which stands as the largest arch bridge in the United States. It was built in 1911 and features observation decks adorned with buffalo head sculptures.

Discover the artistic culture and Native American heritage of the region in the five underground galleries of the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture. The museum also conducts tours of the Tudor-style Campbell House, offering insight into what life was like in Spokane during the late-19th century.

Bing Crosby fans should visit his childhood home where old records, photographs and books belonging to the singer are on display. Witness Bing's Academy Award for "Going My Way” and make the one-block walk to Gonzaga High School where he graduated in 1920.

Getting around Spokane

Spokane International Airport is 15 minutes’ drive west of the city centre and long-distance buses make the 4.5-hour journey to Seattle. Buses access all corners of the city and Spokane is also renowned for being bicycle-friendly.
