About Bolonia Beach

Forming part of El Estrecho Natural Park, Playa de Bolonia is a wild beach in southern Spain’s Province of Cadiz. It’s renowned for its pristine white sands and crystal clear water and is home to one of the best-preserved Roman archaeological sites in Andalusia.

Relax beneath an umbrella on the sands of Playa de Bolonia or enjoy a refreshing dip in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. At the eastern end of the beach are several natural pools where you can splash around at low tide. Playa de Bolonia is also home to the Gran Duna, a 30-metre-high dune that has been designated as a natural monument.

A short stroll from Playa de Bolonia are the remains of Baelo Claudia, an ancient Roman town that flourished during the rule of Emperor Claudius. Wander between the columned basilica, forum and aqueduct before exploring the ruins of the former fish salting factory.

Getting there

Playa de Bolonia is just over an hour’s drive from both Cadiz and Gibraltar. Seville Airport is 2.5 hours away and has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Having your own vehicle is the most convenient way of getting to Playa de Bolonia.
