About Neuchâtel

Things to do in Neuchâtel

Built in the 12th century, Chateau de Neuchatel soars over the Old Town and is a vision of spires and turrets. A stone’s throw from the castle is Eglise Collegiale, a magnificent Gothic church built from honey-coloured limestone.

Strolling around the Old Town, you’ll see beautiful sandstone buildings reimagined as stylish cafes, boutiques and art galleries. Enjoy a meal at a local brasserie or treat yourself to fine-dining at restaurants housed in 18th-century manors and woodland estates.

Palais des Beaux-Arts has been welcoming visitors since 1884 and showcases masterpieces from throughout the centuries. The building is a work of art in itself, with a striking façade and evocative murals by Swiss painter, Leo-Paul Robert. The world-class collection includes paintings, sculptures and graphic art, along with jewellery, coins, ancient artefacts, ceramics and glassware.

Venture into the Jura Mountains to discover stunning alpine trails. The hike to Creux du Van takes you to a dramatic natural amphitheatre with towering 160-metre high walls. Neuchatel is also a launchpad for hikes in the stunning Val-de-Travers region. For panoramic views over the mountains, take the bus to the village of La Coudre and ride the funicular to the summit of Mt Chaumont.
