About Mandal

Perched on the southernmost tip of Norway, Mandal is crisscrossed with cobbled streets and narrow alleys. Beautifully preserved white wooden houses have been reimagined as cafes, boutiques and museums. Just outside the town centre is one of the most beautiful beaches in Scandinavia.

Things to do in Mandal

Fringed by lush evergreen forest, Sjøsanden Beach stretches for 800 metres and has an end-of-the-world feel. The beach is set within Furulunden Nature Park and is perfect for sunbathing, swimming and working up a sweat with a game of beach volleyball. When you’ve had your fix of sand and sunshine, stretch your legs on one of the scenic forest hiking trails.

In summer, Mandal comes alive with al fresco cafes, outdoor concerts and family-friendly festivals. The pedestrian-friendly Gågada district cuts through the heart of the town and is brimming with boutiques, bistros and souvenir shops.

Visit the Mandal Museum to find out more about the rich history and heritage of the coastal town. It’s home to one of the largest collections of fishing artefacts in Scandinavia, including enormous nets. Other highlights include whimsical landscapes by iconic Norwegian artist, Amaldus Nielsen.
