About Lom

Things to do in Lom

Stroll around Lom to be enchanted by the cobbled streets and centuries-old log cabins. Many have been reimagined as cosy cafes and taverns where you can enjoy Norwegian dishes like “kjøttkaker” pan-fried meatballs.

Lom Stavkyrkje is set in a grassy cemetery and is one of the prettiest churches in Norway. The Norman-style church dates back to the 1110s and features a beautiful wooden façade and soaring steeple. Guided tours offer information on the highlights, including a series of magnificent paintings from the 1700s.

Lom is a great base for day trips to Geiranger, a fjord town 70 kilometres away. The drive is an experience in itself, with the spectacular Sognefjellet Road winding through Jotunheimen National Park and taking you past sparkling glaciers, snow-capped peaks and cobalt-blue lakes.

The excellent Norsk Fjellmuseum charts the rich history of mountaineering in Lom and Jotunheimen National Park. In addition to exhibits on famous climbers and ascents, the museum covers topics like natural history and cultural traditions. Don’t miss the enormous woolly mammoth in the main exhibition hall. Just behind Norsk Fjellmuseum is a fantastic open-air museum dotted with historic farm buildings.

Getting around Lom

Lom is compact and easy to get around on foot. Trains run between Oslo and Otta, from where you local buses take you to Lom. Rental cars are a good way to explore the region at your own pace. Oslo Airport is a four-hour drive away.
