A 30-minute drive from Rome, Lake Bracciano is considered one of Italy’s most important lakes. Escape the bustle of the big city and admire the natural beauty of the lake by boating, canoeing or sunbathing.
Surrounded by lush greenery and olive groves, the lake traces its origins back to volcanic activity that occurred around 60,000 years ago. Venture out to the unspoiled countryside surrounding the lake via bike, on foot or in your car and stop to sample regional cuisine in a trattoria.
Explore the town of Bracciano that sits on a hill above the lake. Spend a day enjoying the outdoors at Bracciano-Martignano Natural Park, then visit the historic Orsini-Odescalchi Castle that houses a collection of armour and weapons from the Middle Ages. You can also visit the nearby towns of Sutri, which has a Roman amphitheater, or Calcata, which is perched high on a tufa outcrop.
Getting there
Located in the northern part of the Province of Rome, Lake Bracciano is best reached by travelling to the towns of Anguillara and Bracciano via train from Ostiense railway station in Rome. It’s 50 kilometers from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.
