About Surfside Beach

Formerly known as Roach’s Beach, Surfside Beach is a coastal town overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean in South Carolina. It forms part of the Grand Strand, which extends for almost 100 kilometres from Little River to Winyah Bay and has been nicknamed the “Family Beach” due to its kid-friendly attractions.

Things to do in Surfside Beach

Originally built in 1953, the Surfside Beach Fishing Pier extends into the North Atlantic Ocean and is a popular hangout for local anglers. If you want to cast a line to see what’s biting, fishing rods, lures and bait are available for purchase at the local outfitters. Alternatively, you can admire the pier while strolling along the beach, with the views particularly majestic at sunrise.

For a retail fix, head to Hudson's Surfside Flea Market, which was originally opened as the Log Cabin Antique Store in 1975. Now owned and operated by the third generation of Hudsons, the market features vendors selling everything from vintage treasures to second-hand clothing and garden tools. The original log cabin still stands on the site and is occupied by Peggy’s Antiques.

Travelling with kids? They can enjoy a run around at All Children's Park or play ten-pin bowls at the Surfside Bowling Entertainment Center. Keen golfers can take advantage of the Tupelo Bay Golf Center, which is home to an 18-hole executive course and a 9-hole “pitch and putt” course. You can practice your swing at the driving range or book a lesson with one of the PGA professionals.

Getting around Surfside Beach

Surfside Beach is a 15-minute drive from Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the United States. Regular buses connect to Surfside Beach while renting a car will give you greater freedom to explore the area.
