Once just a small fishing village, Torremolinos is now a bustling resort town on Spain’s Costa del Sol. The city centre is traversed by a pedestrianised shopping strip that connects to a golden sweep of sand overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Torremolinos is renowned as an inclusive destination and is famed for its annual Pride celebrations.
Things to do in Torremolinos City Centre
In the heart of Torremolinos City Centre is Calle San Miguel, a pedestrianised shopping street lined with retail stores, restaurants and bars. Don’t miss the Church of San Miguel Arcangel, a small but beautiful house of worship that was built in 1718. At one end of Calle San Miguel is the Torre de Pimentel, a 14th-century defence tower constructed by the Nasrids.
For a day on the sand, head to Playa La Caracola, which stretches the length of Torremolinos City Centre. Beach umbrellas and sun loungers are available for rent and there are plenty of restaurants nearby where you can refuel throughout the day. If you want to get a bird’s eye view of Torremolinos, take to the skies on a parachuting flight with the local water sports operator.
Occupying an Art Deco-style building on the edge of Torremolinos City Centre is the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso, which hosts art exhibitions, readings and workshops throughout the year. Designed by Francisco Alonson Martos in the 1930s, it comprises an assembly hall, two cinemas and a yoga room, plus a sculpture-dotted garden.
